De-Fence-Less

“We’ve got to do something about that fence surrounding the school,” Janet declared.

“Yeah, lets attack to shoo them away. I am sure the will take their fence along when they leave,” Glare suggested waving around her fist.

But the youngsters objected. “ No! No! Don’t do that. It is not good, plus they have the guns to kill us. We could be a little nicer at least. In fact, we could tell them our problem,” one baby suggested.

Sama nodded. “Lets vote,” she suggested. “Those who love Glare’s idea pick a leaf…”

Only Glare picked a leaf.

Sama continued, “ All those who agree with the baby’s plan, pick a cherry.”

Everyone but Glare picked picked a cherry. The group decided that they would talk to the the big lady they had often seen order people around. She seemed to be in charge, and they all agreed she would be the best person to talk to about the school's fence. She usually walked down the main path leading up to the school at 5:00 pm.

“She’s late,” Glare complained, as they sat and waited on the main path forming a barricade.

“SHUT UP GLARE!” Janet snarled.

“Shhhhhhhh! She’s coming,” everyone cautioned.

The big bossy lady was walking down the path as usual on her way home. She was astonished to see her path blocked by a band of monkeys.

Janet stood on Sama’s shoulders to make herself tall and audible to the lady. “Hello I am Janet, a monkey as you can see, and I am here to represent my family. Who are you?”

The principal replied, “I am Mary, the principal of this school.”

Janet said, “We are pleased to meet you. But we are sorry to say, we have a problem with your school.”

“What’s the problem?” Mary asked.

“When we jump from tree to tree, sometimes we fall on the fence. The iron spikes on the tips cause us grave injuries.

Baby Glina waddled up to Mary and pointed to a nasty gash, that had only just started to heal. “Would you please take them away?” Glina pleaded, tears leaking out of her eyes.

“We will attack, if you don’t,” Glare added.

Janet grimaced. “Don’t listen to Glare.”

Mary nodded. “Why don’t we just take them off right now?”

Glare mumbled, “ Sorry I was mean. I get a little overprotective some times.”

Mary examined the spikes. “These are screwed on. Janet fetch me that dustbin there, please. I need to get a toolkit.”

Mary went inside the school. Janet came with the dustbin and put it on one end of the fence. Mary headed towards them with a toolkit. She went to the other end of the fence. “I will take off the spikes and screws and hand them to you. One monkey needs to throw them in the bin. Tell me who to hand them to.”

Glare signed up, and arranged the other monkeys in a line up to the dustbin.

Mary removed the first spike and gave it to Glare. Glare passed it to Glina. Glina passed it to Sama. Sama passed it to Janet who tipped it in the dustbin. The process continued until every spike was removed.

Then Mary took baby Glina to the vet, and the vet gave her some medicine and showed the monkeys how and when to put it.

The principal returned the monkeys to the forest with the medicine bottle and returned home very happily. She went for a walk with the monkeys everyday and they became friends.
